DEAR COLLINSVILLE NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS,

After many years of planning and fundraising, the City of Collinsville is home to the new Warren Billhartz Animal Shelter. Countless hours of hard work and generous donations made this new facility possible, but this is really just the beginning. The shelter may be constructed, but now it's time to take care of the animals and find each one of them a new home.

Here's a sample of the good things that have happened thanks to the unique collection of members, volunteers and supporters - see the story of Miracle ...

MIRACLE'S STORY
A few days before Christmas an elderly woman surrendered a cat to the shelter because she could no longer care for it. Miracle the CatWhen the cat was removed from the crate, the shelter employees saw a fragile creature with fur covered in cigarette tobacco and tar, and pus drained eyes that were sealed shut. After a careful bath, a Flame Point Himalayan with big blue eyes that appeared under all the dirt and grime - a cat named Miracle. She was very thin and had a funny under bite. An exam revealed Miracle had deformed nasal passages that were completely sealed and her teeth were infected and overcrowded. The deformity was a result of poor breeding, most likely from a kitty mill. This deformity made breathing and eating difficult and surgery was needed to ensure her survival. Even with deep discounts, the surgery would cost close to $300. A vote was taken and payment for the surgery was approved by FOCAS.
